The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
Genesis 15:1-6; Luke 12:32-34

“The Magical Moment”

(God) brought (Abraham) outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness.

I love to look up at the stars, to gaze up into the heavens.  And on those nights when the stars are clear and bright, I find that my life seems to become clearer and brighter, – the distractions of life seem to fade away.  I haven’t “wished upon a star” for many years, but I always end up talking to God on those nights when I gaze up at the stars; And we talk about my wishes, my hopes, my dreams, my faith, – my heart’s desire.

In this week’s Gospel Jesus declares, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”  So, what do you wish for at night when you happen upon a “wishing star?”  What do you “pray” for when you find yourself in one of those moments when “the heavens” draw you under their spell?  May God grant us all the wisdom and courage to pray for the things that our hearts truly desire, the things that our hearts can truly hold; the great love that belongs to the kingdom of God.

“The Magical Moment”
      1. The Magical Moment

Reach out, touch the magical moment
Touch the moon and the stars
Reach out, touch deep within
Imagine who you really are

You’ve been held a prisoner
Going on a thousand years
Someone else’s expectations
Your own set of fears
Going on a thousand years

Reach out, touch the magical moment
Touch the moon and the stars
Reach out, touch deep within
Imagine who you really are

Your mind has been on overtime
Creating a distorted world
lonely and preoccupied
White flag unfurled,
Creating a distorted world

Reach out, touch the magical moment
Touch the moon and the stars
Reach out, touch deep within
Imagine who you really are

Wondering if you ever gave it all
The law laughs and the heart cries
The eternal day dream
Under blue sunny skies
And the heart still cries

Reach out, touch the magical moment
Touch the moon and the stars
Reach out, touch deep within
Imagine who you really
Imagine,  Imagine, Who you really are,
Imagine,  Imagine, Who you really are, Imagine who you really
